Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook to share spotlight at national conference

PR and marketing professionals charged with building awareness and community for their brands will get the opportunity to immerse themselves in the latest best practices in leveraging the most important three social networks at PR News’ “The Big 3 Conference” on Aug. 9 in San Francisco.

Just as social media initiatives must be integrated into overall communications strategies and bottom-line imperatives, PR News has integrated Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook tactics into one intensive day of learning at San Francisco’s Hyatt Regency on Aug. 9. Among the brands that will be sharing their expertise in the use of Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook at The Big 3 Conference are American Airlines, Old Navy, Adobe, Boeing, Cisco, Buddy Media, American Heart Association, Esurance, Norwegian Cruise Line, Burson-Marsteller, H&R Block, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and Shine America.

Communications thought leaders from these brands will share ideas, tactics and lessons learned in using Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook to advance PR & marketing efforts. The conference also includes networking opportunities, breakfast, a keynote luncheon, an interactive clinic on team resource management and a cocktail reception.

Congrats to Eric Mansfield on new role and a introduction to Pinterest

Major kudos go out to Kent State University this week.

There’s good hires, there’s great hires and there’s the school’s move to hire WKYC-TV anchor/reporter Eric Mansfield for the school’s newly-created position of Executive Director of Media Relations.

The decision is a great one by Kent State.

Mansfield is a consummate professional and is active and a fan of the local community.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the support I’ve had at Channel 3 over the last 18 years,” Mansfield said in a Facebook post. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of being a broadcast journalist and bringing you the news each night. I’m equally excited to move into a new opportunity as the new Executive Director, University Media Relations at Kent State University beginning June 1. More to share in the coming days, but I’m thrilled to move on to a world-class organization where I can contribute every day.”

Mansfield, an Akron native, joined WKYC Channel 3 in 1994 as an Akron bureau reporter and also worked as an anchor for PAX 23 News.

WKYC’s loss is Kent State’s gain.

Will Pinterest work for marketing?

Another day, another social network.

I’ve joined the craze this week and am checking out Pinterest.

In case you haven’t heard, the relatively new social network is an online pinboard where “you can organize and share things you love.”

The service mostly features pictures, but marketers can share links as well.

I think the service is a natural for companies that feature products, but I’m still researching how the site can benefit companies that feature online services, like NeedNexus, one of the companies where I do marketing.

Need to do some reading on these matters this weekend. If you’re like me and feel you need to catch up on Pinterest, feel free to check out the following links.
