New country song benefits Salvation Army
Anonymous donors have been dropping gold coins into Salvation Army kettles nationwide in recent weeks, just as chart-topping country band Highway 101’s latest radio single “Six Gold Coins” climbs the chart. The single was released following the band’s triumphant return to the Grand Ole Opry on November 26th, and it began to receive immediate airplay, charting as the most added song at Country Radio last week.
News outlets across the country are reporting that gold coins, valued into the thousands of dollars, have been dropped into kettles in Nashville, Chicago, Louisville, Houston, Milwaukee, Santa Cruz, Kansas City and many more.
“We wrote ‘Six Gold Coins’ after hearing of a news report in Denver a few years back,” says Highway 101’s Cactus Moser. “Someone had dropped six gold coins into a Salvation Army bucket in front of a WalMart. It’s just a great story about Christmas and giving, and a real reminder about the spirit of the holiday.”
To add to the spirit of giving, Highway 101 is giving away a new iPad on Christmas Day. Visit the band’s official website at http://www.highway101.net to enter.
The music video for “Six Gold Coins” is included on the band’s new DVD release CHRISTMAS ON HIGHWAY 101 (Uptone Pictures), which includes a special cameo appearance by Country music icon Wynonna. Directed by Michael Davis (Christmas Memories, A Box for Rob), CHRISTMAS ON HIGHWAY 101 is a collection of heart-warming stories and awe-inspiring music from one of country music’s legendary groups, featuring 11 traditional carols and holiday songs all nicely wrapped with the unique Highway 101 sound.
